ive got a 98 type ra wrx sti i have a wierd knocking or grinding noise when i drive or floor it and let go i get that noise when i dip my clutch it stops but im in middle off doing a 2.2 i had a wr1 6 speed and stage 2 clutch put in and the noise is louder my mate nxt door told me it is a comen fault on them and you cant get rid off it dose anyone know what it is or there car is doing it thank you

 

i dont know too much but thrust bearing maybe? only saying this as you stated when you dip the clutch it stops.........

So the noise is there all the time then?

So that would point towards a gearbox/clutch problem.

Why is this relevant to the problem?

Are these items fitted in the RA or the 2.2?

it makes the noice when i stop accelirating the 6 speed is on the ra not the 2.2 yet the reason i said about the 2,2 i dont want to drop it in then somet bad gone wrong with that noise
