Default 51 plate bug eye STI warning light

First of thank you for looking at my 1st post, i have bought my first subaru and it is a stripped out trackday car. will do a full post of the spec and extras that it has.
But i had a bit of a small issue the first time i took it on a trackday @ Keevil last Monday.
The engine warning light come on, and when i come of the track, my mate plugged into it and it came up with crankshaft sensor. He cleared it and had loads of fun.
Until the light came on again, and again it was crankshaft sensor, which was cleared.
Now i am going to Spa in October and want to know what i can do to stop this from happening?
Been told it came on because i hit the rev limiter? But this is going to happen on a trackday.
The car is a uk model wrx sti

Thank you all in advance for your help in this matter

HI cossymax ,

all i can say on this is that if it where my car i would just change the crank sensor. i use to drive a bug eye and it got driven very hard and i never had the management light on through red lining it. if you are getting a fault code for crank sensor then its best to change it.

Was going to do that as a matter of course, But it have a brand new stainless de cat exhaust system on it, and thought it might need to be re mapped and this might be the cause?
I bought the car with the exhaust fitted but no rolling road or mapping documentation with it?
thanks turboaddict

You have not remapped the car with a full decat on?
Yup that would cause it, and kill the engine at the same time
I would not rag that car at all with a full decat, god knows how much damage you have done already if you have been red lining the car fully decatted....

But the bloke i bought it of said it never came on when he used it on 5 different trackdays??

And he said it had been re mapped but have no paperwork to prove this

So either he is or was not telling the truth, or it might be a sensor?

Anything else it could be? will be gettting the crankshaft sensor, is this a main dealer part only?

On a track u dont have to hit the rev limiter to get the best out of the engine anyway, If you put the car on a rolling road you will see the power starts to drop off way before the 8k(or ur) rev limiter, from the print out you will see where your peak power is and where it drops off, this gives you the ideal gear change point,
as above remap to sort out a few issues and give you more power.

Many thanks, i know hitting the limiter is not perfect and to be honest i think it was happening when changing down the box.
I have had years of driving cosworths ect, and know bouncing of the limiter is not good.
The rolling road i use only have a 2wd one.
Any know a good rolling road for 4WD? dyno dynamics ect?
Im in london

Your car is a japanese domestic market model, its designed to run on 100 ron fuel as a minimum, they never made a 2001 UK car, those didnt come in until 2002 and there are several differences.
I would get a mapper or garage to check to see if your car has been mapped, I would be very worried if it has not, especially with a full decat....
