Unknown grinding noises from under car when in gear??
Ok got a bit of a problem here,
Got a pal to change my rear discs, pads, calipers on my my99 uk turbo. He is a a good chap and would not con me etc. Done work on my car loads.
I now have a nasty sounding grinding/whining noise when im mostly in third gear just slowing the engine down or letting the car cruise along. If i disengage the clutch it goes away totally. The car is driving fine brakes seem cool. No problems. Car just sounds awfull. I had none of this noise before the brakes were all changed im sure of it. He has double checked everything and cant find the fault.
We changed the gearbox oil and rear diff oil checking correct amount was in it to be safe but no difference.
I know something is wrong but have no idea. Im very worried it's gearbox or rear diff, but they seem fine no problems apart from noise. Any one have any ideas on this?. Very concerned

Hey ill answer my own post..
Turns out it was the diff plate, i had bent it when the jack slipped. Bit of bashing later and all is good. That's been drving me nuts for over a week.
