The pistons have been known to crack ringlands at std power. If you plan to open the engine then its a good opportunity to remove them.
The rods should see you into the low to mid 400 hp area.

The head gaskets can also leak. On mine, the HGs leaked at the same points on all cylinders, suggesting the head bolts loosen up.

I think its the luck of the draw mate duncan did about 20 track days, time attack sessions and nurburgring trips on his 06 sti 2.5 running at 380 bhp without any problems, subaru give a 3 year 60,000 mile warranty even on the ppp cars , its the luck of the draw any engine can fail for many reasons.

Rods are good for around 450 if you dont raise the rev limit and for everything the VF43 can throw through it. (as the pistons should have been with a good map)

you will need a few other things on your shopping list depending on your power targets...

- gearbox
- clutch
- tmic (or fmic)
- fuel pump
- exhaust
etc etc
