I`ve just had the first MOT with my 99MY and the following may be of interest. Mods. - S/S downpipe, P.E. sports cat centre, Magnex b/b and Link ECU. First attempt was a no-no as the emissions were way over. Changed back to the original ECU - perfect! So all you guys with Link - dont get rid of your original board!!
Interesting that getting rid of TWO cats. and using the PE one, which is no bigger than a bulge in the pipe, produces perfect emissions! (fast idle Co 0.01%, natural idle Co 0.13%)
Oh dear! I suppose I shall just have to keep the original board in!

What is the difference between the PE centre cat and the std cat that comes on the Uk cars?

Did you run the car to get the cat hot prior to testing the emissons?

Just wondered as it may help all of us who have a full de-cat

cheers

Guy

The PE centre cat is intended as a no-resistance only-cat-required thing. They claim (with facts to back it up) that it doesn't offer any flow restrictions. Presumably it probably doesn't work until good & hot, but I hope it would work seeming it's £400

I had run the car for approx. 4-5 miles of slowish driving, enough to get the oil temp. to the required 80c The cat. is metallic as opposed to ceramic. I guess it`s similar to the ones used on rally and touring cars? (does anyone know?)
Yes, it was expensive but I dont live in too much fear of the dreaded roadside test, even with the Link.
