Question What just happened to my car?

Just gone out to it, it's parked in full sun. I opened the door, put the key in the ignition and turned it two clicks to put the windows down for a bit or air and heard a loud "pop" from under the bonnet. it sounded like a champagne cork popping, and was loud enough to send next door's dog running for cover

The engine starts, nothing looks wrong under the bonnet and all under-bonet fuses seem OK.

Anyone any ideas? Is it something I should worry about?

Temperature under the bonnet was 35 degrees, inside the car was 43 degrees.

Could it be fuel in a cylinder igniting? As you turned the ignition on the cylinder could have sparked.

Perhaps. Just a muffled pop, but like the lid blowing off something over hot, you know?

Did it again this morning, MUCH louder and more powerful "pop".......shook the whole car with me in it

Once it's done it, that seems to be it though, and it's when it's been standing in full sun and not started for a while.
ANYONE any ideas?

Not rad cap, as far as I can see, the water temperature was below 30 degrees on the Defi gauge and not even registering on the car's own gauge

The pop makes the whole car judder.

Could be a dribbling injector and the excess fuel/vapour being ignited when the ignition
is switched on.

Possibility of car idling rich just before engine shut down. I experienced this twice since 1998 and I stay near the equator. Any chance of tweaking to weaker idle and observe ??

never seen a link do it..

it sounds like when you turn the ignition on, for some reason it is firing the coils.

I'm leaning towards this explanation, and will ask Bob about it, but in the meantime, should I worry?
