Default legacy heads onto jdm wrx

hi would much appreciate a bit of advice about a 1994 jdm wrx i have, basically it blew the head gasket and when removed it was found that the heads had been badly machined and had a 3 thou gap between cylinders,

so decided to stick some early legacy single turbo rocker mechanical lifter heads on to get me going again........car will start but is very very rough and misfiring, will not rev etc its like the timing is out, although checked and its bang on....

have been doing some searches and not really found a answer yet to wether this is the cause but have found that by doing this conversion that i have reduced the compression ratio which it does sound like its on low compression,

any advice would be appreciated although original heads will be going to get machined properly and will probably stick them on, but would of liked a explanation why the legacy heads don't work cam profile, wrong ecu????

many thanks in advance.......
