buy from a proper dealer it's not worth risking your engine for 40 quid!

Confusing listing. The picture shows a complete top-end upward rebuild kit for 97-8MY, but is described as a "head gasket set" for "96-00". Do you get everything in the pic, or just a pair of head gaskets?

If you do get everything in the pic, and if your other posts are any guide, you have a phase 2 classic, and in that case the gasket set pictured in the auction you've linked to will be no good for you as appears to be intended for a phase 1/1.5 engine (and the listing mentions "EJ20G") - and so will only fit up to MY98.

It will fit an EJ20G engine (which was used up to 98MY in the UK), but 99/00/version 5/6 cars use the EJ205/EJ207, and require a different gasket set. Suppose it's possible that the seller would ask you what car you've got after the sale concludes, and send the correct one, but if you're considering going that route, you should probably ask the question before purchasing. Would be worth asking the seller what the thickness of the head gaskets are too, and double-checking that they're correct for whatever you're fitting them to.

However, all that said, you can buy genuine Subaru parts from places like Import Car Parts at a far more reasonable prices than a dealer will charge. If you're doing a job like this, using genuine bits has a value in terms of peace of mind.
