Specialist in south Essex
Hi can anyone recommend a Subaru specialist in the south Essex area close to the Basildon and Southend areas.
I have recently had my engine rebuilt and after issues with a couple of things I was happy until someone commented on it 'rattling' and the valve clearances could be causing it. I wasn't concerned before as I was told that STi's rattle until warm. This person who is a mechanic then said I reckon that's the small ends. I explained it was under warranty and asked what sort of questions I should be going to the builder of my engine with at which point he said without booking it in and looking at it he couldn't say as it could be anything.
If I'm honest he's got me worried now and although he could be after a job himself I would rather get the second opinion of someone who knows what they are talking about. My warranty is fast approaching and I don't want tk end up with a car that is worth nothing and a 3k rebuild bill.
The car in question is a 98 version 4 Type R. Only mods are a de cat exhaust. This has not been mapped yet and I appriciate it should be but the warranty will not allow it. Once the engine is given the ok I am going to be getting the fueling checked and then a new ecu and remap but as you may appriciate the engine problem needs sorting first.

I agree I will be taking it back to them but they are a 200 or so mile round trip away so want an opinion of someones before I take it there as when I mentioned the rattle before all I got was oh yeah they are all noisy. Have other issues such as the idle not being intermittent, the throttle over revving when cold and what I feel like is generally not a very nice drive. I really want to take it to a garage and get an independent opinion and if a bad opinion some questions and things I need to be telling the garage that built it. I'm not that clued up enginewise and only know basics so can be easily persuaded that the engine is ok as I know no better and before you know it I've wasted my time going down there and as the warranty is running out could be stuck with either a knackered car or legal battle.
