How is the radiator held in on a classic?
Mine seems to have two U-shaped channels, one above, one below. Both REALLY rusty. I've had the upper one off, changed all the bolts for stainless and repainted it. The rad SEEMED to be held in by a pair of brackets on the TOP channel, but I can't make out what happens underneath.
The bolts that go INTO the U-shaped channel on top did nothing except hold the pipework in place and the fan housing. Two sheared off, but were removed by gripping with Mole Grips and turning them IN to remove from the INSIDE, before replacement with s/s.
Do the ones on the lower channel do the same job? Is the lower channel removable for rust removal and a repaint, or is it part of the car?
TIA

So what do the bolts along that bottom channel do, then? Nothing? Or hold the fan housing?
Can that bottom channel be removed too, like the top one?
There also seemed to be a couple of locating protrusions which went into hard rubber mounts, like on top.

Just removed mine, (but not the fans).
The rad is held by two bolts on the slam panel, then have brackets that slip off the rad, the rad then when the pipes removed and electrics unplugged will just lift out, as its held by two pins on the bottom that fit into rubber bushes in metal cups underneath.

Thanks Jimbob, that's as I thought. I shall partially remove mine, support it and repaint the lower bracket tomorrow then, while replacing all bolts down there with stainless too.
Pity that lower bracket doesn't come out, it was so easy to remove the sheared off bolts with the top one out, can't see the bottom one being so easy.
