What reg is your car and does your dumpvalve bolt onto the intercooler if so the coilpack should be to the right. If it is in the centre then it's a my 97/98, but it might have actually registered after 98. As an example I have seen bugeyes on a x plate, but saw a classic wagon on a Y plate.

version 5 is no different to version 6 engine wise and the term version was only used on the jdm cars, for the uk classics it normally goes on the model year(MY) ,so a 1998 classic will be a MY 98(or a version 5 jdm,if built after oct 98) My t reg classic was a MY99(v5),my present W reg Is a My 2000(version 6 jdm). The link below should help.

Easiest to go by where the coil packs are, a phase 1 engine'd car has nothing on the inlet manifold, on a 1.5 the coil pack is in the centre of the inlet, on a phase 2 its off set to the right when looking into the engine bay.
Apart from that, versions were only ever used on STI's, from version 2 though to 6, all the rest are best regarded as domestic market and model year, it saves a mass of confusion, especially when ordering parts
