Dave have a look @ this..
https://www.scoobynet.com/general-te...5-engines.html
I have same prob, mine burns a bit too much oil, I am told that the 2.5 should only burn around 1 Liter max around every 1000 miles.
Hope this helps

Cheers Shaun,
Made a **** up really. i checked oil from stone cold. after running and checking after 5 mins it was spot on.
I just wondered really about consumption on a forged piston 2.5. the STI 2.5's dont come with forged pistons do they?

It amazes me how badly a lot of built 2.5's breathe! This surely can't be a very good sign?!
Tim,
Have you got a proper baffled sump on yours (apart from the Cossie baffle plate)? As that appears to be the only difference, as mine does not throw oil in my catch can, assuming your current breathers are venting correctly.

I think it breathes OK - in normal driving I collect no oil at all; it's only on the track that it seems to be an issue.

Built 2.5's Oil usage seems to be (in most cases, assuming nothing is actually wrong) down to the build make-up and tolerances. As long as it is expected by the engine builder I see no problem with it imo. Some use oil, some do not. Mine has always used oil and does 1ltr every 700-1000miles depending on level of abuse inflicted.
Tim,
I actually had the return to sump fitting put on the sump when my engine was first built. It was done as a precaution, just incase breathing was an issue. It turned out it wasn't so the fitting has always been blanked off and never used as of yet.
I'm not sure of the link between having a baffled sump and (presumably) crank case pressure build up that you experience on track, but perhaps apart from the actual breather system that you use (I don't know what this is or how it is plumbed in), I can't see what else is different in the specs.
I do hear of a few people having these symptoms though, so your certainly not alone.
Personally I would not use a an engine at these kind of spec levels on track, without a proper baffled sump being fitted. The faster you get, the more g's you pull, the more chance you have of oil surge.... for the cost of a sump, it is not worth the risk of doing your bottom end in imo.
