Default Engine stuttery / hesitant

Good morning chaps.
I have a problem with my Standard UK 03 WRX which has started to happen in the last day or so but very much more noticeable this morning.

In summary – bit like HT break down – bit like MAF going u/s – plug breakdown?

Blast down the M-Way this morning seemed OK but wasn’t going too quick, when coming off acceleration the engine is very stutter / hesitant – however slight acceleration seem help but you can’t maintain steady revs i.e. moving along in slow traffic . Any ideas or similar examples?
Cheers in advance.

Does it happen all the time or just when hot or cold?
Sometimes its easier just to go to a dealer/speciallist to get the fault diagnosed, could save you a packet of cash and say roughly where you are and people will point you in the right direction to places to take your car to

Default Update..

Thanks Guys - update is the Engine warning light has now come on indicating that it must have picked up what I was feeling... I'm between Southampton & Portsmouth - default dealer would be Sparshats Botley
Cheers

Quite a few of us Hampshire Subaru lot use Len at Subaru4You (highly regarded), which is located in Newbury, so a blast up the A34.

Sparshatts and Len will begin by reading the fault code that will have been stored when the EML came on. You could read the code yourself, it's not too difficult: do a search on here.

Thanks Nick - its been into Sparshats today and I have yet to test fully - they were helpful and kept me informed during their diagnosis - the code indicated a lean mixture - what they found was collapsed air filter (non-genuine Subaru item) which could have been suffocating the engine at low speed.
I'm assuming that the lean mixture could have been caused by sensors backing of the fuel due to lack of air
On the side they noticed (as have I) it is a bit tappy when cold which could indicate a bottom rebuild could be in order not too far away...
