Std turbo is a TD04. VF35 is a popular and good upgrade; TD05 16g also OK.

There are a whole host of other things required to support this turbo - fuel pump, injectors, I/C upgrade, exhaust (?), re-map. You would be advised to upgrade brakes also.

At the type of power/torque levels achievable here your gearbox and clutch are on borrowed time and your engine may be too, speak to an expert to get a 'safe' output.

If going from a td04 to a td05 make sure it has been converted to front entry, unless your car is an early impreza with a top entry td04,as you will have to change all of your inlet piping. As said above there are plenty of other turbo's out there that are a good upgrade to the std td04: vf 23/24/28/29 /30/34/35 will all fit if your turbo is a front entry unit, and all capable of producing substantial more power after a remap than your td04.
Search around and a decent one can cost you £200/£300.

Depends which model year. Most have a TD04, early ones a TD05.

As above you will need physical supporting mods, and most importantly, your ECU mapping for the new turbo. Again what you need varies according to what MY your car is so the more info you give us the better. Clearly if your car's a pre-97MY you already have a TD05 so the upgrade becomes a moot point.

Also as far as upgrades are concerned, it might be more helpful for you to tell us how much power you're trying to achieve and how much you're prepared to spend to get it. Thinking of the turbo first is a bit putting the cart before the horse.
