Fitting a Blitz Nur Spec R
Hiya :-)
I want to fit a Blitz Nur Spec R Exhaust to my 2005 Blobeye STI, and I want to know if I will be able to get away without having it remapped once I've done this?
My mate thinks the ECU will remap itself, but other people are saying it will kill the car. No one really seems to know for certain.
Any help would be much appreciated!!!
Cheers!

Hiya!
Without wishing to sound like a complete spud (which admittedly I am, being new to Subaru ownership!), how do I know if mine is a Classic or a Newage?
There are pictures of my car on here if you are able to tell just by looking?
Cheers so far!!!
p.s. If it IS a new one, as you put it, what are the implications of putting on a new exhaust without remapping?

well you said its a 2005 blobeye which makes it a 'new age' impreza. i'v modded and owned lots of big turbo cars but like you am unsure why from such little modifications it can mess things up...(i'm putting a guess at the fact its run on a MAF and not map sensor)
I currently have a sports cat down pipe but want a straight decat pipe putting in, will that two mean i have to remap the car just from a down pipe?

The noise level difference between the S and R from within the cabin is quite alot, the resonated centre section makes a big difference hence why I only went for the backbox cos I do alot of motorway driving.
This might help...

Hey again!
Thanks for all your informative replies, really appreciated!!
The picture is very useful indeed, I can see exactly what it is that I'd be adding now, in respect the Blitz Nur Spec R. If I do add the Nur Spec R, does that mean that I'd still have the rear catalytic convertor in place and that it would still pass the MOT?
If I ran a de-cat pipe as well as the Nur Spec, would the Nur Spec be much louder than if I just ran it with the cat?
Thanks again!!

If you decat the downpipe, defo get a remap, it wud be unstable if you didnt map it properly after decating.
If your STI has the prodrive pack then your second/rear cat would have been removed. If your STI dosent have the prodrive pack then you could still remove the rear cat and still pass an mot.
You 'should' be able to pass an MOT with just the downpipe cat or a sports cat. It would fail massively if the downpipe was decatted. Big performance increase but emmisions wud be over the limit.
Depends where you get your MOT done (ahem, wink wink)

I currently have a full Blitz exhaust and mid pipe...but have a PPP sports cat down pipe (its been remapped to this) would just fitting a straight decat mean i have to get it remapped again or will the flow be almost identical there for not effect the ecu?

Not sure, the margin between the sports cat and no cat would be smaller than the standard cat and a decat. However, you'd be going from a bottleneck catted system to a free flowing system without any cats, that would probably call for a remap to be on the safe side but Im not sure.

If you de cat the down pipe u should def get a re map or map tweek if the car is allready mapped for other mods.
A recipe for disaster if you de cat the dp and dont get it re mapped!
I have a 3 inch dp with sports cat then blitz nur spec r and passed MOT with just the one cat in the system! Just make sure that the cat is hot when taking it for a MOT.
Go on get the blitz fitted and let it roar!
You wil either love or hate the noise of the blitz, I love it!

The R system will give a deeper exhaust note than the S. Both are still nice and burbly thou!

getting back to sharpy's original question, answer is no remap required. i fitted a blitz nur spec-r to my 2003 sti type uk without remap and had no problems whatsoever. still passes mot as only downpipe cat is needed really to keep emissions low enough for mot. so go ahead and let your scoob roar, that blitz note just cant be bettered imo

R is the full system i.e. back box + centre. I think the R's backbox has a 3" inlet to match its bespoke 3" centre.
S is back box only. I think the S has a 2.5" flange to mate to OEM centre sections (but not sure if the inlet pipe then widens to 3", or still remains at 2.5"...?)
