Default Injectors damage?.... quick reply needed

Hi guys,

I recently bought some injectors off ebay, 440s to fit phase 1/1.5 one of which has some slight damage. On the top of the injector theres a kinda raised circular shape and in the middle is a small needle type thing. The circular shaped part has been distorted and has torn off slightly.

My problem is I am unsure if this part needs to seal onto the cap that bolts down to the fuel rail? Im also confused by how the standard cap fits these injectors as on my 380s the cap has a little rubber insert that fits onto the small needle thing in the top centre of the injector.... the 380s also dont have the raised circular part so I am unsure if these new injectors will actually bolt down.

A quick reply is needed so I can give feedback to the person I bought these off!

Cheers Guys,

Gaz

I changed my injectors the other day from 380 to 440 and they both look the same.

hmm... did they both have the elevated ring at the top then? with the needle thing in the middle?

To put it in simple terms I need to know if the cap that bolts the top of the injector down seals anything? I dont think it does but need some reassurance.

If the cap does seal the top of the injector then this broken ring bit at the top wont hold the seal.... thats my concern.

Cheers for the reply!

Post a pic! What did the injectors come out of? They should be a drop in unless you have bought 99/00 440,s which will need adaptor cups to fit to earlier fuel rails.

Just noticed 99 legacy under your username. Surely like the impreza they use the revised 99/00 fuel rails so would need a phase 2 injector.

will get picks later today after I get back from the BTCC.... the injectors were stated to fit early Ph1/1.5 but even if they were 99/00 440s surley the cup adaptors fit the bottom of the injector where it goes into the fuel rail? Im on about the top of the injector where cap bolts it down not being the same?

Cheers,
Gaz

Lol ignore the 99 Legacy.... The injectors I bought to fit my MY93 WRX, I compared the ones I bought with the ones on my MY94 Legacy GT which have a different shaped top.

I will get some piks up and have a look on the actual impreza engine later today because its obviously not clear what I am on about. I just thought someone else might have known what I meant by the top of the injectors and if the top needs to seal anything.

Thanks again!

Yes to fit phase 2 injectors the cups go inside the rail and the injector fits inside the cup and the cap on top.

Are these for your 99 legacy? If so your legacy should have 440,s fitted. Ive fitted various injectors to various years and never had a problem. Sometimes the injectors can be hard to get seated and pushed down into the rails but plenty of vasiline sorts that out and also stops the O rings being nipped. Dont use the cap the clamp the injector down as the o ring can be torn easily. Get them seated first.

Just read your post about the legacy lol.

Either way they should fit fine providing they came from a Subaru and they are side feed not top feed!

Heres some pictures.... Top of the standard one, brown and domed with a small raised bit and the needle in the middle.

The cap made to fit over the raised bit and rubber bit to protect the needle.

and the new injectors with damage to the top

totally different shaped top so how does the cap fit, If the cap is to seal that needle thing its not going to seal anything on these new injectors.

Need clarification that the damage on the yellow injectors will not cause any leaking? which I dont think it will, and if the standard caps just bolt down onto these even know there a slightly different shape at the top.

Wish I was in a position to try it but the cars half built, people must have encountered this when changing their injectors?!
