Default engine change in my 99 classic

can any one tell me if an 2003 sti engine fits my car?
I know all the EJ20 blocks are all the same its the heads I'm not sure about.

All EJ blocks are not the same, so not sure where you got that idea. They're the same general physical dimensions, yes, but there are considerable detail differences.

As far as the 2003 STi engine, someone who knows how will be able to physically put it in but your '99 loom and ECU won't be able to control it properly, thanks to not being AVCS-capable, while it will also need an instant remap.

The full answer to this question is very long, but if you want a drop in, key in and drive away replacement for your current engine, the short answer is no, a 2003 STi unit is not it.

i was told by a very reputable scooby garage (he does alot of work with Andy Forest) that all the ej20 blocks are inter changeable. Granted there are slight differences i.e gearbox mounting. but i was just wondering about the heads wasn't sure if the were the AVCS heads if so my heads should fit the block and they will be up for sale shortly
