Default big power 2.0

just a quick qeuery...

why doesnt anyone stay with 2ltrs and go for strokers 2.1,2.2,2.35 or 2.5 for rebuilds?

and for those with 2.0 what sort off power are you making and how laggy are they with regards to big turbos..

any pics off rotated set-up also welcome

Strokers etc with generate more torque than a 2.0L, so kind of makes sense for not alot more expense.

Depends on how you want the car to drive and what you will be using it for. A 2.5l can make for a much easier drive, whereas a 2ltr may be more frantic and require more gearbox use to keep it on the boil.

Horses for courses and there is no right or wrong way.

From what i hear a stroked 2.0l is better than going for a 2.5 if your aiming for power. The 2.5 runs out of steam well before the 2.0l does

Depends on the 2 litre and the 2.5. 7000+ rpm for a 2.5 vs 8000+ rpm for an STI 2.0...

It's a matter of cash...

A 2.1 is almost identical in price to a 2.0

A CDB or a 2.5 build will cost way more.

Having been in a 2.5, a 2.1 and mine 2.0, it's clear the 2.5 makes a nice road car, a built 2.1 makes a monster and mine isn't bad.

No, I got a lift in a 2.1 cdb build ( 627 bhp )..... by EngineTuner !

Mine feels faster, but it's due to mine hitting with a wallop at 4000 rpm, whereas the 2.1 just felt like a gigantic elastic band was firing you at the horizon.

One word.... "Bull****!"

2.5's can rev as well as 2ltrs and also provide the top end grunt.

Most people dont want to spend 3k on Cosworth heads to get them to do so though Shaun.

I can not speak for anyone elses requirements or positions.... just correcting what had been stated about a 2.5 and what was indeed possible.

Anyway.... even standard newage heads and cams on a 2.5 do the business. You only have to look at what people like Duncan has achieved on both the dyno and the black stuff. I feel to a degree the original point was irrelevant anyhow in you take this in to account.

Interesting thread.

I'm running 453bhp on my 2ltr STi. Ok my torque isn't anywhere near to the bhp (386lbft) but for my driving and what I use the car for its great.

Would love to drive a 2.5 on a the same turbo (MD321T) with my FMIC (Harvey Smith HDi kit) to see what the noise on the 2.5 is all about.

Like you I enjoy the "wallop" mine has at 4000 rpm...

But, a 2.5 WRX @ 360/390 would scare you, they just seem to pull from tickover.

I'll second that. my 2.5 revs just as well as a 2.0l. Not sure who came up with the myth that 2.5's don't rev , obviously someone who hasn't driven a built 2.5. It also pulls like a train in the mid range.

Thirded. My built 2.5 pulls like a train from very low and revs just like my old 2 litre did. Much better as a fast road car / commuter IMO.

I have a jdm 2.0l spec C on a 06 plate (hawkeye)

Current setup to name a few is;
Litchfield twin entry LM450 turbo
Hyperflow FMIC
800 injectors
Oil breather kit

all mapped to around the 450 bhp mark

This is not a every day car just for fun so what would you recommend for me?

IMHO it's down to budget, you can drop some forged rods and pistons in for a reasonable cost, but many here have spent many thousands on a liner'd monster build 2.5, that obviously is a product of the cash invested.

A 2.1 short motor on a pallet can be yours for a round £2250 delivered.... that's a bargain IMHO, and the route I'm taking soon.

Im only saying what alan jefferies told me. Im looking at them both. not knocking the 2.5 at all im just wondering which is the better overall.

How are your opinions on linered 2.5s. There is one for sale on here

The original question is mute until you take into consideration what modifications & mapping surround it! It also makes a difference of what car it is in. Classic vs new age.

If you do it right any engine can fly. You could also make any engine lacklustre.

You need to ask your self what are you using it for? Daily driver, track day monster or somewhere in between?

You should also ask yourself 'what is my budget'.

mines a classic track car with TA in mind trackdays sprints the usual RYWB but will see very little road miles

antoehr question re: turbos
will a say 4-500 brake turbo make 4-500 bhp (with supporting mods for both engines) regardless on a 2.0,2.1,2.35 or 2.5 its just how it makes its power and torque?
