Default td05 18g Overkill?

Hi,
Ive been offered a td05 18g as a replacement for my td04 turbo, i was looking for around 330bhp after my remap so would getting a td05 18g instead of a 16g be a bit over the top and put alot or strain on gearbox and internals.

Thanks i cant remember where i read it but will it not muck up the internals , i no the gearbox will be on borrowed time as the early ones are useless.

Think it is overkill, the 18g is a 360-380 bhp turbo and if mapped to it's full potential it will kill your gearbox quickly and engine at some point probably soon after. You can get it mapped to lower potential but seems a waste and don't know what driveability will be like. A VF35 is a better bet, will give a nice 330 which is much better for your gearbox/engine as long as some sympathy is employed. Gearbox may well still be on borrowed time.

You will need other supporting modifications to achieve 330 bhp assuming your car is a WRX/T2000

Thanks thats what i was thinking might just get a td05 16g otherwise. Yea i got all the supporting mods, 440cc injectors, FMIC, full de cat, uprated manifold/ down pipe, induction, uprated fuel pump, GEMs ECU etc just need a turbo as currently on a TD04

LOL - 16g is a good, strong turbo capable of 350 (as is the VF35) and has good spool up. Will still need some sympathy though .

Good luck

Setting a torque limit is probably sensible to make the most of the gearbox's life.

Will 440s be OK if mapped for full power?

I think 440s are good for about 340bhp max
