Default Boost adjuster

Hi, found out that my Bugeye WRX has a boost adjuster plumbed in where solenoid should be and has a boost gauge on the drivers side pillar. When driving, it seemed to pulse on and off boost when it got towards 1.0 bar so i tried turning it up, it then boosted to 1.2 bar and cut boost altogether followed by EML on and limp mode. I turned it back down, just below where it was originally, reset EML with OBD2 and now it seems to give a proper smooth boost delivery at 0.9 bar (stock i think). Am i right in thinking this boost adjuster is pointless unless the ecu is altered to compensate and will only fight the adjuster if not? Comments appreciated, Mark.

Remove the boost adjuster mate s all you will do is detonate the engine and melt a piston you need a custom map if you are to increase the boost safely so that the fueling can be altered so that you get it bang on bud.

Exactly what i thought, luckily the overboost protector is still in place so i havent damaged anything. Am i also right in thinking that my Bug boost plumbing would have been modified to take an extra pipe for this adjuster? If so does this mean i need a 3 port solenoid now instead of a 2 port? Again, help appreciated Mark.

It could be there to cap the boost, do you have any mods? It won't hurt leaving it set at standard boost pressure. Do not use it to increase boost pressure. A lot of people fit these to prevent overboost problems or spikes. Let's hope for your sake whoever fitted it didn't bugger about to much with it!!

Should be ok now i reckon, boosting at bang on 0.9 bar and running sweeter than ever, after all Subaru spent millions researching the final stock boost setting so a £50 bolt on mod isnt going to make the Scooby better is it now!....
