Just close up the ports with something so no debris get inside.

Im unsure to be perfectly honest, but as you have no reposnse yet all I can say is that I sold a Bugeye to a work collegue before my daughter was born 4 1/2 yrs ago, and he bought a VF30 brand new to fit, but one thing led to another he didnt get round to fitting it. He kept it in his house (no central heating), anyway 4 years later I bought it from him with some minor surface rust on the exhaust outlet, and the oil feed was capped, other than that is was left open to the elements of the house for 4years.

Fitted and mapped and it runs as new as I would have expected.
