Default maybe the stupidest question in the world

My service book says that they put in 5-30w oil in my engine. In my shed I have 5-40 and 0-30 oils, can I use ether to top up the engine if I have to?

so long as they are on a par quaility wise it won't do any harm
.

It won't actually hurt, but then again pulling the trigger doesn't hurt either, assuming the bullet isn't actually in that chamber.
Personally, I'd just buy the right oil. Go on, you know it makes sense..
