Ive just purchased my99 type r and been looking at what mods have been done to it, upon inspection i have discovered that it doesnt have a MAF sensor on it but has charge temp sensor drilled into the top mount intercooler, the car still has the standard ecu and runs 1.1 bar peak boost, anyone heard of this before ? im quite confused as i thought you needed maf sensor was needed......would appreciate some expert advise

cheers

Could be a nice surprise.... you no doubt have an aftermarket MAFless ECU. Simtek, for example, is MAFless (good!) and think you can get a ACT sensor to work with it as well.

My money's on that you have Simtek mapped car, based on your underbonnet "evidence" (although 1.1bar would be "low" for your car if it has been mapped).

Check the ECU by taking off it's lid - you should see the Simtek replacement board (or other mappable ECU) inside if it is...

The ecu is standard, had cover off to have a look, circuit board has no aftermarket stamps on it , car also has a old hks vein pressure controller, and electronic valve controller very confusing

Hmmmn, you need to get this looked at by a specialist. If the ECU is std, then it is designed to "see" a MAF. I would get a second opinion on what you actually have...

The car drives well, pulls like a train, no engine check lights etc. Will get it on rolling road soon to see whats going on, then will look into getting a good ecu and a few upgrades.....

With what you've described, you have so many unknowns -- wise to drive off boost until you get it looked at.....
