Reduction in pressure in the Master clutch cylinder is a well known problem for subarus! Juddering when cold can occur in most Subarus because of the amount of power transfering through the clutch. for more info look at IMPREZA WEB OWNERS CLUB SITE-IWOC www.iwoc.co.uk item No.11 Short FAQ
hope this helps

Question

Hi all I hope that some one can help..

I have a STI MY98 and all is well apart from 2 things….

1. The clutch peddle some times stays down when you have changed gear and take your foot off of it … The Drive is ok when the peddle is down so its not stuck and it will spring back a few secs later but is very disconcerting..

Is this a sign of the clutch going.. It currently judders a lot when cold. And you can still feel it through the peddle when warm. I ask this as I thought the clutch was going when it last when to the dealers for a service but they said it was ok and they did some thing to it as it seemed a lot tighter.

2. I also have a engine hesitation between 2000 – 3000 normally in 2nd or 3rd which is like a misfire I think .. it happens when your in traffic and in 2nd say at say 20mph and you have the gas down to keep the speed and you press it a bit more to increase it and it seems to do it then but give it more and it sorts its self out but some time with a bit of a jerk.. but that could be because of the extra gas.

Sorry for the long descriptions.. but this is really starting to bug me and starting to get in the way of enjoying the car..…

regarding clutch peddle stays down after depressing - might be the slave cylinder, eg sticking piston or faulty one-way valve ?
