Default Turbosmart Dual Port Bypass Valve

Their site says:

-----------------------------------------------------
SUBARU DUAL PORT

Part Numbers:
BLUE: TS-0205-1015
BLACK: TS-0205-1016

DESCRIPTION: Four BOVs in one. The Dual Port can be configured as a Supersonic, Megasonic, Plumb Back or Dual Port! Features sequential ports for quiet operation on mild boost and full performance at full boost.
APPLICATION: Suits WRX MY01-MY07, STi MY01-08, Forester 05-07.
SUPPLIED WITH

Blanking Plug, Gasket.

-----------------------------------------------------

Yet everywhere that sells them only say that the Dual Port can be configured as a Supersonic, Plumb Back or Dual Port.

What's with?

Thanks

Once again thanks for the great help.

A fully recirculating BOV built to a better quality and stronger material is better than the standard i would imagine.

Where did you get the idea that it is "built to a better quality" and "out of stronger material" than the standard one? Serious question.

http://www.turbosmartonline.com/index.php?id=46

It doesn't exactly say "built to a better quality" that wasn't really the correct thing to put but Turbosmart say "If your vehicle is running higher than the standard boost level, you should upgrade the factory BOV, as it is designed to leak boost!"

And as for "out of stronger material" that's my mistake, i thought OEM were plastic.
But it may be a stronger material.

Well, they would, wouldn't they? The reason I asked you that earlier question is to try and encourage you to consider the difference between sales bullsh*t and reality. So far all you're doing is quoting sales flannel from Turbosmart's website, which you appear to have swallowed without question.

The people selling these trinkets are hardly going to say "Look, the standard valve's really good, you don't really need this overpriced tat we're trying to sell, but please buy it anyway", are they?

The suggestion that "the standard valve is designed to leak boost" is utter rubbish btw.

But it may be a stronger material.
The OE valves from MY99 onward have an aluminium body and valve face, ground steel shaft etc. How much stronger do you think an aftermarket one is going to be?

What material was the pre MY99?

So is the MY99+ OEM BOV okay to use say with a 500+ BHP Impreza?

Thanks

Plastic body, metal bits inside it.

By definition a car running that amount of power will have a commensurately modified induction tract and won't be using the standard MY99 intercooler, is unlikely to be running the standard pre-turbo MAF and ECU. In addition, there would be a requirement to dump out a much greater volume of air than the standard one could comfortably cope with, so no, in practice you'd invariably choose something that fitted the particular application.
