Unhappy Car is fecked!

Words cannot describe how gutted I am! My forged build V3 has just broke a valve after 6000 miles. One head has cracked, the block is knackered, one piston melted. Is this common or am I seriously unucky? I've spent about 7k on the engine and most of it is now useless. I wasn't even thrashing it! Do I try again or cut my losses and break it?

If you do a search, Dave Rowe, turbo/running looks like it has been an issue for you fella, this could contribute to a fecked engine. Mapping and running really need to be spot on when using the Simtek due to the lack of knock control, det probably killed your car mate sorry what fuel and who built the engine ? even bullet proof ones aren't det proof.

Fuel was v power always! I don't really want to get into finger pointing at this stage. Just wanted peoples opinions. Could a broken valve alone cause all that damage or is it a build/mapping issue?

tbh could be anything from mechanical failure, to bad mapping, bad build or just down right bad luck. are you running antilag?

Spec is: cosworth pistons, arrow rods, acl bearings, arp head studs, uprated fuel & oil pumps, cosworth baffle plate in sump. TD05-20g. K&N cone filter, autobahn front mount & simtek with antilag. Full 3" exhaust with equal length manifold. 850 injectors. The car was running a very mild 325bhp!

When the engine went I had driven approx 3 miles from cold steady on a country road and I was just accelerating onto an A road!

I was saving for a 6 speed and a new turbo!!! As for the antilag to be honest I had hardly used it.

i would question the 850 cc injectors and 20g for 325 hp. unless it was mapped properly it must have been a laggy bastid. that sort of power and with that setup should be achieved with relative ease and should prove to be not very stressfull on the engine. you have a fundamental problem on your hands chaps. either it hasnt been mapped properly or someone has messed up the engine rebuild. was a new oil modine used when doing the rebuild?

I'm still on the original 5 speed so it was mapped to 1.4 bar max. The 850's are big I know but they were in place for the future mods. Yes, new oil modine was used!

I've got a pic now of piston no.3 and it has actually broken as opposed to melted. I'm guessing this suggests mechanical damage as opposed to detonation??

you will clearly see the marks of det on the piston crown. mechanical failure would suggest a piece of swarf or something not done correctly at engine build time.

Crank was original. Not reground because it wasn't rebuilt because of a failure. I just decided to freshen it up and strengthen it for more power. Could I send one of you guys a photo for a second opinion.

He has stripped it and is saying that unfortunately it is a valve failure not a build or mapping issue. I'm going down in a week and just want to do my homework before I decide how to approach it. He is offering to rebuild it at a reduced labour cost!!!!

That's a tough one. It could be argued you over revved it for example.

id say this was down to thee map if one of the pistons melted.
was running to hot, what ecu was used?

for it to bend a valve, the that side cam must have slipped.
325 is very low for that set up, im using 440cc and a 16g td05, and im there at that

again, down to map and as aboth, the injectors are to big/over fueling

Belts were all brand new so I guess that can be ruled out. Dabow, I corrected my earlier post it looks like the piston has broken rather than melted. If it is a mapping or build issue how do I prove it? Can I get an independent inspection??
