So i've blown a hole and burnt a gasket ( at the same time ) in my poor quality exhaust manifold and the car now sounds like a tractor , but what worries me is when i go full throttle from low revs in higher gears, say from 2,000 rpm in 3rd as soon as the boost starts building up the car starts sputtering, jolting and backfiring. If i punch at higher rpm, say about 5000 the jolts are not as pronounced.

Is that because of a hole in the headers not giving turbo enough exhaust pressure to spin up properly, meanwhile the ecu starts overfueling thinking the boost is going to come and all this unburnt fuel goes through the exhaust and gets burnt producing backfire ? And the jolts are from the turbo not spining up evenly ?

Have i deduced this correctly ?

I've also got a BOV and ecutek remap to complicate things a bit.

Is it going to be dangerous driving like that or just not very fuel efficient ?

 

one, noise regs
two, your car is ill, get a new exhaust manifold or get it welded.
three, car will run like an owl huer and do more potential damage.
four, you might as well syphon off your petrol and give it to me.

In which case stop driving it because you're putting the car through unnecessary pain and anguish not to mention the distinct possibilty of causing some real engine damage.

If you cannot afford to fix it stop driving it till you can and don't forget to put the standard recirc type air bypass valve back on, you might find it drives a bit better once you've fixed the headers that is.

 

so what kind of damage can a blown header do ?
