mapping options ?
i have a my98 uk 2000 , would like to get it mapped in the very near future
its completely standard at the mo , so will be decatting and upping the fueling , also got given a front mount off a mate
what are my mapping options ?

as joz said apexi or simtek, personally with the prices of apexi being what they are by the time you have paid for a decent mapper to map the apexi you will be in brand new simtek fitted and mapped prices, the simtek also has the benefit of being mafles and having 2 different maps.

The Subaru OEM ECU is a very capable and sophisticated computer controlling all aspects of engine control from starting, warming up and cruising, to accelerating at full chat with the turbo forcing air into the engine at around twice atmospheric pressure. It does this at any temperature or altitude, on varying qualities of fuel over the lifetime of the engine, allowing for the degradation of parts over several hundred thousand miles, learning and self diagnosing problems throughout it’s life.
All but the MY97/98 Impreza ECUs can be remapped and this should be the first option considered by any owner wanting a remap.
MY99-08 cars can be reflashed directly where as the early MY92-96 ECUs require the fitting of the ESL Live daughterboard prior to mapping.

MY01-09: £350
Plug and Play replacement ECUs available for MY92-MY05 Impreza.
Massively capable ECU with all the features you could possibly need on a road or track car: 2 switchable maps, LC and ALS, AVCS cam control, close loop fuelling and boost control, knock detection and much more.

The ESL Live daughterboard is a small PCB which fits into the ROM socket on the MY92-96 OEM ECU. Once installed this board makes the std ECU fully remappable in real time.
The early ECU is very capable, but can be hindered by some of the early ancillary parts, specifically:
1. The MAP sensor can only read to 1.23bar, in reality this limits boost control to around 1.15bar in order to maintain the overboost safety fuel cut feature.
2. The MAF sensor can only meter enough airflow to make around 330bhp
The ESL mapping software allows these limitations to be overcome by allowing the configuration of sensors from later models.
A version of the board is available which will allow the car to be run with a MAP sensor rather than the MAF as the primary load input.
