Unhappy turbo advise!!!

hi all, very confused as to which turbo to choose , i have a uk turbo 2000 on x reg which has had a good few mods done to it inc a full decat system and a remap had it rolling roaded at powestation and it was 276 bhp. all running fine but noticed the other day when starting from cold a very very slight tinge of blue smoke from the exhaust when reved slightly? all fine when warm and dos'nt smoke at all when you boot it hard, but as the engine was rebuilt by api in nov 09 it cant be valve stem rubbers so i am putting it down to the turbo maybe warn seals?? so i started to looking round for a replacement turbo, i have checked the turbo on the car at the moment and it is a td04 and i wanted to buy a turbo which would bolt straight on and give me more power after a map tweak but looking round on ebay and vairious other sites i am getting confused as to which one would be good for what i want which is a direct replacement and more power has any one any ideas as to which one would easy to get hold of and would do the job for a few houndred quid??? thanks for any advice.j.

I`d say VF35 for about £300-£350 , good quick spool and good for easy 330bhp and same torque and pretty easy to come by, Also TD05 16g simaler performance but not one of the cheapies off ebay that dont make the numbers and will last about 6 months

Your OEM TMIC is prob only good for 300-320bhp. By all means you can get decent spooling turbos that can match that figure e.g. VF22/23/24/28/29/30, etc., but it would be nice to fit either a New Age STi TMIC or a FMIC and so free up your turbo choice to bigger/better options, so as to gain more power/torque after the remap. For example you could then opt for a VF35 for great spool and c.340bhp - a 'sensible' amount, as the engine internals/gearbox become a weak link around this sort of level (if not before!).

Your existing 440cc injectors are good for about 330-340 so if you do go diff. IC, then might be worthwhile considering moving to 550s...

Ultimately, it all depends on your budget, now much power you want, and how long you're prepared to be without car.....
