Default help please :)

I am replacing the head gaskets as the colling system is pressureising under boost.

I have removed heads and would like some friendly advice on how to clean up the block from the old hg i dont want to use something that will make matters worse

any ideas please??

Hi,

We used to use a scraper.......ie a stantly blade to remove old bit of gaskets then wet and dry to finally clean block/head face.

Hi,

To be honest doesnt really matter.........just make sure its the black stuff and not brown!

Itll feel quite smooth to touch........I cant remenber what gauge but you'll soon get the feel for it!

should imagine something like 800 grit.

trell do you mind me asking how much this is costing to do yourself.

im going to be doing mine next week but i have already spent about 300 on parts lol

Im just doing mine now, where did you get ALL the gaskets from etc as i havent got mine yet.

The heads are coming off on Thursday as ive removed all the other stuff but cant get time off till then.

Are you getting them skimmed?

150 on head gaskets....

water pump was done 600 miles ago as was cambelt etc

£12 on a 12 sided 14mm for the head bolts

and some serious labour time

luckly i aint cooked it so i dont need to skim heads

Mark @ lateral performace has genuine on the shelf 141 for the pair give him a call

not getting skimmed as i didnt cook it.

just a hell of a clean up with scoth very fine and thinners

Lucky sod as mine hit the red before i saw it.

I had to changed the heater matrix etc so dash had to come out (PAIN IN THA ***) ive got a mate who's a Volvo mechanic helping to make sure i dont ***** it up :-).

im doing cambelt and water pump plus a few other mods while im there. may even do new pistons and rings if i can find them for the right price

i use a stanley blade to get the majority of the old gasket off but be careful as it can be easy to put deep marks into the surface's if not careful,
then 800 to 1000 grit with wd40 to clean them up

all donr guys car is perfect had it full bossrting the lot
