i blew the head gasket on my car...

i have taken cam belt covers off and find that the cam shaft pullys are not metal they are like a plastic any ideas on why??

they could be anodised but there are no holes they are solid

Hi,
Yep for some reason they use a type of high tensile plastic......not sure why

no they are plastic read on another thread last week about some 1 having there engine swaped for a recon engine after his engine blew and the mechanic broke 3 of them which cost him £330 to replace from the dealer

i have a set of metal ones of my engine i broke previously would it be best to swap them in the process?

Hi,

Erm not sure.........if you are thinking about it just make sure correct size and it'll be worth counting the teeth in the new pully to make sure same as old!!

My theory is Subaru have spent millions testing and developing the engines......ok somethings they got wrong, but i worked for a dealership for six years and we never had to replace the plastic type cos of damage etc.

But again up to you!!
