apologies for non scooby post... Merc CLK230K experts?
Hi, apologies for this being a non scoob related post but nobody anywhere else on the entire internet has a clue...
Changed a valve on a CLK230K (Kompressor) V plate. Think I have the base timing incorrect as it is flat, and when the VVT kicks in it splutters and hesitates, much like an old mini on a misty morning. If the Cam position sensor is disconnected the spluttering goes away however it is still flat as a fart (to me this points out a timing conflict of some sort between it and the Crank pos sensor?)
The cams are fixed in place by two pins, the bottom pulley is marked
40 | 30 | 20 | 10 | OS | 10 | 20 | 30 | 40
It is not possible to have it set on 'OS' with the cams pinned in place. On '10' either side it is not happy at all... on '30' retarded she is happy until the VVT kicks in, that is where she is set now. I really am fishing in the dark here as I neglected to mark the bottom pulley before taking the head off, expecting the camchain to stay where it was... but it seems it didn't.
There is of course the possibility that this is not the problem, but she was fine before (albeit running on 3 cylinders with a damaged exhaust valve)
any help or pointers to a useful resource online would be GREATLY appreciated as this is holding up me earning my rent, which is due on Monday!
Thanks,
Owain / owbow
