I have a 124,000 mile 13 year old UK turbo, at the moment I am using Motul 15w 50 oil, however, is this too thick on start up from cold? would I be better with a 10w oil such as silkolene or miller's?

15W-xx....okay in spring/summer, but winter temps under 5 degrees will see it get quite thick. A 10w-xx or even 5W-xx would be good for the colder months.

What about all year round, would a 5w-xx or 10xx- be okay for that?

personally I'd go for either a 10W50 or a 10W60 for all year round protection

I run Silkolene Pro S 10W50 in mine, but I'd also recommend Millers CFS

A 10w40 or a 10w50, if your car isnt using any/much oil then the 10w40 is more than sufficient wouldnt go for a w60 oil, very thick and your car wont really get that up to a decent temp, plus it could put undue strain on your oil pump, not good on a high mileage engine

okay, any particular brand? Or any as long as it's fully synthetic?

Semi synthetic is good enough, you wont benefit from putting a fully synth in there anyway, thats designed to reduce wear and unless you know the car has been run on fully synthetic for the last 100k then its a waste of cash
Just dont use castrol magnatec.

hi all,
iv just done my six month oil and filter change,now i have been using hallfords own 10w 40 oil for the past year as reccomended by them,anyway iv just droped the old oil and put castrol magnatec 10w 40 in, can somone tell if this is a good or bad oil for my car witch is a 1997 impreza sport,and if it is a bad oil in what way is it a bad oil and will it damage the engine in anyway.
