STI Remap way forward?
I've a bug eye 02 STI looking for some performance upgrade's. The car currently is pretty much standard, so guys am i right in thinking i should be looking at replacing exhaust before any remapping? Cant stretch to a full perf pack at min. Would their be much benefit in replacing the rear silencer only? Been looking at scoobyworlds racebox....any thoughts appreciated cheers

It will sound different, and you may think this "feels" it's quicker...
A re-map with a decent exhaust should see 330 bhp, mine did a few years ago....

I had my bugeye sti running at 360 bhp with the following Mods;
APS 3 inch turbo back exhaust (incl CAT), uprated fuel pump, tubular headers, FMIC and induction kit. When I had mine fitted the Ecuteck was not as developed as now so I went for a GEMS ECU which uses a MAP sensor. I have now pushed to 416 bhp with further mods, turbo, injectors and exhaust upgrade. But still on standard internals at 98K miles. The TMIC and airbox with a good panel filter are good for upto 400 bhp and the re-mapping of the OE ECU has come on a long way. So you won't need to go the route I took. Hope this helps Steve

Yeah, I remember about the 305 PPP.
My second experience of Imprezas was as a passenger in a work colleague's Bug STi 305 PPP - loved the mid-range punch/thrust of that car - quite unlike anything I'd experienced. That short memory caused me to get 'into' Imprezas, and eventually got my early Classic a few years later.

265 as standard but with PPP they claim 305 bhp but I have never seen one do more than 296 bhp PPP standard.
Normal starting point is a full decat, preferably with a 3" open neck downpipe.
Next would be ported headers and uppipe followed by a remap. Changing the panel filter does little or nothing for power output but the likes of K+N seem to have greater service life and can be cleaned regularly. Avoid steel mesh or foam that can allow dirt particles the size of grains of sand.
Then remap.
On a 2002 STi UK to the above spec I had 335 bhp at both TEG Sport and Scooby Clinic but on the rollers at Motoscope this was 348 bhp.
The VF35 turbo moves enough air for around 340 bhp with all mods. Any cats left in the system will rob a bit of power.
Do a search for the Onlythebrave-2009 thread as he has just done this I think and there is good information there.

yeah Adam's worked very nicely with your headers on there Harvey - 352bhp still with the sports cat isnt a bad result IMO
Joz - 265 ish as std but can get 300 ish with remap still with both original cats onboard.
Decats or sports cat increases the power available aswell as making it come in sooner in the rev range.
