Question

Guys,

I'd appreciate some input on re-chipping my Sti3. The car had a Phase 1 upgrade from Power Engineering a couple of years ago but the ECU failed (slowly over a couple of months) to the point where the 'only' option was to replace it with a standard unit. The difference, as you would guess, is marked.

I've got two questions, what are the chances of resurrecting the old ECU. I know that I should really speak to Power Engineering on this (and I will) but I've only had the car back a couple of days and I'm a fair way away from their shop with not a lot of possibilities of getting the car to them in the short term. Is bench testing of these units a possibility ?

Second question, given that the PE unit is dead is their a generally accepted 'best' ECU upgrade and who should I look to for fitting/mapping work.

Really appreciate any help with this, I've been an Impreza driver for 6 years now and the last month without this one has been tough!

cheers
Joe

If you open up the ecu box you will see that the phase 1 is a soldered in "piggy back" chip, what can happen is that the ribbon cable solder joints fracture causing ecu failure, if you have a good eye you could try re-soldering all the joints, failing that desoldering and removing the chip is doable, there is a zero ohm link that will need to be remade if I remember correctly, in order for the standard chip to take over again.

Ring PE, they can probably fix it for you.
