just fitted magnex downpipe, the new pipe had 2 threaded holes in it
the one at the very top i didnt need so i made a blank and welded it up,the second one further down i needed to use but the sensor thingy didnt clamp up correctly on investigation i found the standard exhaust had a seat for it to seal on, the magnex just had a straight through hole which i had to blank off for now,any way the question i want to ask is is it safe to run with it disconnected and what does it do?seems ok with out it but would like to understand the workings of it all ....buy the way the jobs
not easy? MY94 wrx import

It is a temperature sensor. You don't need it.

The sensor is probably the Lambda sensor which senses the amount of oxygen in the exhaust which is an indication of mixture strength (rich or lean) and sends a signal to the ecu which in turn adjusts the injection timing to compensate. It`s a form of fine adjustment and should be operational. The signal is ignored on boost where mixture is programmed. (This is a simplified explanation - techies please note!)

Why are these downpipes not right, surely they know how many holes to make in it.

Even if a UK is different to a WRX shouldn't they supply blanking plugs, instead of the owner having to bodge it ?

Stainless isn't the easiest metal in the world to weld.

If it`s the Lambda sensor you`ve left off have you had the emmisions checked lately? Also, what is your fuel consumption like off boost?
Just so happens mine has gone kaput - wont pass an MOT at the moment and the consumption is awful. (Replacement on order) and this on a three year old car!
Manufacturers would`nt fit a component costing around a hundred quid if it did`nt do anything?

it was the temp sensor i left off,but saying that a suspect the lambda sensor is faulty as the Co was 12% very rich, thats with a full magnex and blitz filter economy is crap...hope to sort it soon

John, it's not the lambda sensor it's a temp sensor or something for the exhaust. These sensors were made redundant after about 95.

My lambda sensor is at the front of the car nr manifold not in the downpipe. These 2 components are compleatly different parts.
