Aircon help please....
#1
Thanks for looking, hope you can help
Driving home last Fri afternoon with the sun beating down thought I could do with cooling down so hit the magic button and turned blowers up a bit, it did cool me down but when I switched the aircon button off it didn't really make any noticeable difference to the air temp being blown in.
Am I right in thinking that the refridgerant can sometimes need replacing?? If so anyone got an idea of price or recommendations. This seems to be the simplest kind of explanation (fingers crossed!)any other suggestions 'warmly' appreciated as the weather certainly seems to be on the up

I recon the system needs a re-charge - Scooby dealer or a/c specialist should sort it.
I believe the manual states that you need to run the a/c once a month for an hour or so to keep it working - i think the seals shrink and let the gas out or something similar.

Try Auto Supplies http://www.autosupplies.co.uk/. There is a place on Watnall Rd, Hucknall, but I can't remember what its called. Expect to pay £70 - £100. Dealers don't have an airCON facility - they simply "charge" you extra for taking it round to the specialist ie. your best going direct.
Prepare yourself for the worst case scenario - mine stopped working because the compressor had failed (these are around £500 + labour - yikes!).
Skid.

Thanks for the advice
Just hope I don't have same prob as you skid
I'll hopefully be getting it recharged soon. Phoned a couple of places yesterday, £40+Vat best, Was kinda hoping for it to cost a little less but I know what it's like sat in motorway traffic on a hot summers day without it, well worth it
cheers...melon

£40.00 + vat is cheap!! ,I found after they put "Leak detector" in mine .The Pump gasket was leaking.. Get it done. If I was looking at a car to buy and it had AC,it is always better to see it working. Shows owner has cared about car.

Cheers Luke,
Is the leak detector something they can add to the coolant or a different test? Would be worth doing if not much cost, I'm still being slightly optimistic and hoping it just leaked away because of not being used much recently and seals shrinking etc, we'll soon see
cheers....melon
PS £40 fill is a company based in Northampton 07802-840611 can't remember name but saw a van on motorway on way home, said they would come to Notts...but I still got a few numbers to try as I'm a tight bugger
