Boost problem.
Hello guys,
I have got a bugeye wrx and have owned it for about 12 months now. When i first got the car it boosted to about 19 psi and was running like a dream. It had been mapped to about 280bhp and had a few suttle mods done such as fuel pump etc. Anyway, I got the dreaded fuel smell in the car and had to change the little rubber fuel hoses under the manifold. Whilst i had the manifold of i noticed that the turbo intake was perishing so i ordered a new one and manifold gaskets and put it back together. When i got the car back in one peace it was only boosting to about 14 psi so i put this down to the dodgy turbo intake pipe. I got the new turbo intake pipe and took the manifold of again to fit it, replaced the gaskets and put it back together.....still only 14 psi. I then thought if the manifold was going to have to come of again i would replace all the air pipes with performance ones (SFS). So I have replaced all the pipes with brand new sylicone ones, replaced the manifold gasket and have checked every jubilee clip...still only 14 psi. I am a broken man, this manifold of and on malarki is killing me. I now know that it is nothing to do with the hoses or gaskets but thats about it...any ideas where to go next? any help will be greatly appreciated. Deano.

As frustrating as it sounds, if it was boosting to 19 PSI before you carried out any work on the car, then the problem lies with something that has been fitted wrong or a minor detail overlooked. It’s a case of rechecking everything again until the issue is found, however tiresome it can be.

Yes the car has been mapped and had a few other mods done such as exhaust, fuel pump etc, and was running fine at 19 psi until this little blip.! Is 19 to high then? am I running the risk of something going bang?

Aprox 1.3 bar is fine as yours is mapped, 1.3 bar not mapped however is a bad thing. Getting back on track, take another look over everything that’s been changed or moved in the process of your work im sure you will find the problem there.
