Default Engine starting problems.

Hi all, i have just replsced the engine in my uk turbo 2000 my98 v4 with an identical engine, my question is this, it will turn over but just wont start, it has started odd times and then runs for about a 1-2 secounds( sounds quite lumpy also) and then it stalls, after another few cranks it may have another go, it has back fired quite a few times and the smell of petrol is strong, the feul pump primes up everytine that i turn the key over and when i stop you can hear it a few times, anyone any ideas, i think that the car itself is overfuelling ( or does the pump prime up a few times everytime that i go to start it) help as am desperate to get her on the road i have had it for 6 months now and this is the final hurdle before i cna mot her.

Did you mess with the injectors? O-rings are easy to damage.
Have you connected the injector plugs in the right order? Dark grey at the back, light grey the front.
Check the connector under the tmic is ok, and that the inlet earth is on tight.
