Default Fuel Filter

I can see a regular service item is to change the fuel filter (on my 02 WRX wagon). Looks like a simple thing to replace as I'm planning on doing the same items myself now the car is old. I searched for any threads on how to change this but haven't found anything on tips or procedure,

Specifically do you need to somehow purge the air through the filter after it's changed, turning the car over without firing maybe?

What's the procedure?

As you've seen there's nothing inherently complicated about changing the fiter. The biggest pest is that the pipes normally get stuck really tightly on the tails of the old one so prepare for a slightly frustrating experience!

It's pretty much as you'd expect. Normally a good idea to unplug (or otherwise disable) the fuel pump prior to removal to drain the old filter and rail, therefore preventing a load of spilled fuel in your engine bay. Beyond that, undo the clips, get the pipes off, and then repeat in reverse.

Non-issue. The only way to get the air through is to start the car. It'll cough and splutter a bit until everything's full and pressured but will be fine thereafter.

When i did this, I disconnected the battery, and also undid the petrol cap, it gets rid of some of the pressure therefore it doesnt come out the pipes as much.

Once all connected up again i turned the ignition on 4 times for 5 second bursts, i think this shows if there is fuel getting to the filter and you can also check for leaks at this stage.

Hope this helps a bit
