Default How true is this

How true is this the scooby i am thinking of buying is a wrx sti red top, i have copied some bits of the advert but it says the car is running 350bhp plus, engine spec is.

Running 1.2 bar boost
Full 3" Light weight titanium exhaust with a 5" tail
3" De cat pipe
Stainless Manifold
Front mount intercooler with hard pipes and IC spray
HKS Dump valve
Performance air filter
TD05 20G Turbo
Wolbro fuel pump
Yellow injectors
Platinum spark plugs

There is no mention of forged internals, what is the maximum the standard pistons can handle.

Thanks
Mark

i dare say it will be but the limiting factor there sounds like the injectors, if theyre yellow 440's they will be about maxing out at 340-350hp. that td05 should be good for atleast 380, dump valve doesnt make a difference to peformance, but yeah the rest sounds about right providing its mapped. clearly youve got to take the power figure with a pinch of salt unless its got a rolling road printout.

It the engine is a true STI unit, it will have semi forged internals and will be stronger then a normal wrx unit. It should handle 380 safely, the next weakest link will be the transmission.

440's will make 350bhp, might need a FPR though

If newage, yellow injectors are 550's. Aren't they? Had a healthy 360 bhp on standard turbo but uppedto 650's with new turbo and now running 416bhp on a bugeye STi.

Found a link on thisthread that will be of use. https://www.scoobynet.com/general-te...le-safely.html

If your car is a classic then it doesnt matter what pistons you have in there, the rods are the weak spot as they are the same in all classics so when they let go your piston goes through the block..... so 350bhp is a safe limit.

Mine?? yes classic but STI !! but the engine is an RCM forged one, with piston, con rods, etc... so no prob to cope with power

1995 SUBARU IMPREZA 2.0 WRX STi Prodrive 4dr Saloon

The car in question is in the link above

Wrighty338 - I know the dump valve wont do anything for performance

Also would you say its priced right at £1944

Thanks
Mark

i saw that myself but tbh i reckon its going to be a nail, too cheap for a start, steering wheels looks naff . i reckon it could be on its last legs, oh yeah and the mileage -hmmm,

my opinion btw ,i havent seen the car just had that bad feeling about it.

i went to see a nice sti the other day, apart from the dodgy mileage ,meant to be 40k , more like 140k miles it looked ok but the owner was as dodgy as f**k so put me off.

i got a 98 sti ra for 3300, genuine mileage still limited to 112km, seats werent worn, not absolutely mint but honest (i hope)

Could be a genuine bargain, could be a nail, get someone who knows what they are looking at to go over it, also your feeling for the seller is crucial.
