My mate bought a v.5 STi Type R in late 2007 (so a max of 9 years old at the time). The previous owner had it dyno'd and it was at 267bhp - about 9bhp down on Subaru's quoted 280PS (276bhp). Obviously no two engines will put out exactly the same figure, etc. But a 9bhp loss in 9 years aint too bad, especially when it could so easily have left the factory at 267 anway! i.e. it's fair to expect a variation of circa +/- 5% in the manufacturer's quoted figure...

Just to emphasise that point, I had my - at the time, stock - MY93 WRX dyno'd (save for a aftermarket system - NOT decat though) and it made 249.5bhp! Some 12bhp more than the quoted 240PS (237bhp)...

Rollers are +/- 10bhp dependent on day from my experience so figures are pretty meaningless.

Well unless your at the pub.

Yes a fair point - far too many variables, etc...... But it's the best most Joe Bloggs's in the street can do.

At least you get some kind of ballpark area (despite it actually very probably being inaccurate)

For me its more a case of its running safely, ie after mine was chipped, exhaust etc etc

Oh yeah - without doubt.

Use 'em for diagnoses of problems/check AFRs, etc

My old Spec C with a panel filter (STI one) and a H&S backbox (rest is standard inc the jdm map), pushed out 316bhp, thats about 40bhp over subaru's quoted figure (and she did this pretty consistantly too)

Hawkeye STI with PPP here, was rolling roaded at 320BHP/356lbs/ft Torque before the head gasket went (that's pretty much bang on book figures). That's been sorted and I've had a cat back since then so need to re run her to see what she's doing now - roll on 13th March

Was this measured on different dynos/days/ambient conditions too?!

If so, you must've loved it!

Same dyno, different days, different conditions, same fan on the front, always pushed between 312-316bhp when the ecu hadnt retarded

Thxs guys

Yep dynos are different etc etc but it gives an idea as to how close dyno estimated numbers and factory numbers are.

Do you think the later models make more power stock than the earlier stock GC8 Sti's ?

Well, NOW, they prob will yes - as the older cars, on average, simply will have more worn engines, and so some of their horses are more liable to have gone out to graze!
