Default help with engine problem

hi people i have a 95 wrx jdm turbo import now i have been having engine problems for a while now.when i start it up from cold it does not sound very good at all if i touch the throttle it is popping and back fireing and generely sounding like cr*p. until it warms up then it starts running ok.but it has a little bit loss of power not alot at all just a little.i no that with classics you can join the plugs under the dash to check problems with engine light flashs.
however i have simtek fitted to my car. i tryed to join the wires under the dash but it does not work so i gather this has something to do with the simtek ecu. so is there any way of checking what the problems is throught my simtek ecu any help would be much appriciated kind regards ben...

The error code reading won't work with the Simtek.
I would suggest you speak to the person who mapped your car.

Take the simtek out and put your standard ecu ( as you should always keep it for this reason) and do the codes this way. If you havent got standard get alone of one.

the car was mapped a fair while ago so really could maybe do with a another.
i dont have the origanal ecu as the simtek was already in my car when i bought it. so my best be is get another standard ecu plug it in but surely the codes wont be in the standard ecu or would the car need to be driven
