Default 97 subaru impreza acceleration problem

Hi i am new to the forums but i havent had any luck trying to fix my subaru and i dont have any idea what the part i need is called. what i was told is it is a sensor. the problem with my car is that when driving the acceleration just stops no matter how much pressure i have on the gas peddle. the timing belt is having issues as in the timing is way off but i was told the belt itself is fine. the car shuts off by itself if driven for more than 5 minutes. i was told it might be a sensor but i have no idea what it is. can anyone please help me?

How do you mean the "timing" is way off? Surely the cambelt is fitted OK?
AFAIK, the IGNITION timing is done by the ecu?

Your problem could be any number of sensors, why not take the car to a reliable specialist, there are a few scattered around the country. Where abouts are you?

Default timing belt

I meant that i used a timing gun and the dot was moving around and was never stable even at idle. i was told the belt itself is fine but the sensor itself might be causing the issue. i was told that could be causing all the acceleration issues.

I am located in littleton colorado. i would really like to take it to a specialist but the car cant make it 3 miles without it stalling and dying. so that is why i was trying to find out which sensor it could be. so i could buy the part and install it so it actually could run more than a few miles

Personally i would get the fault codes read and go from there but if your saying theres issues with the belt then i would get that sorted first because if it goes yoe got woes
