Default whats the pipe???

Can anyone tell me what the pipe is that runs underneath the car-
It is partly rubber and partly metal,
It runs from the centre (aprox near handbrake area) across to drivers door area, then forward and up into engine bay thenheads towards the area below and infront of the air filter?

I replaced my downpipe today and noticed its really corroded
any ideas
Cheers Nick

It's the breather from the Charcoal Cannister.

It's basically a vapour trap for the petrol fumes in the tank.

The line you are referring to under the car is the breather connected to the base of the canister - UK classics don't have this breather under the car, they just vent straight to the inner wing.
