Default Turbo issues!?!

1999 Turbo 2000

I've searched through Scoobynet for a similar thread, but cant find anything relating to my problem.

Today on the way home from work, it seemed as if the turbo wasnt kicking in. Im used to getting to about 2.5 - 3k rpm and hearing the thing spooling / whiring like a gooden (even when i'm driving conservatively) whilst getting pinned to the back of my seat - love it!

I then dropped the speed on some local roads, put in second and floored it, couldn't hear any turbo 'noise' and the car didnt have that lurch of acceleration is usualy has once the turbo kicks in. Instead the car just accelerated smoothly upto about 4.5k rpm, which is when I slowed down (foot off the gas).

Any thoughts? I've had the car since December (christmas present to myself). Its got a full Subaru service history with all the stamps, no mods, and has obviously been looked after.

Thanks for any help

Rich.

Read the fault codes stored on the ecu.

Check the boost pressure with a gauge.

If it's running spring pressure (approx 7psi) then it's likely to be a solenoid/sensor issue.

If it's running no positive boost at all, the the turbo is probably knackered.

Any ideas on how much a replacement turbo will be (WCS)?

Is there anything I can do by myself (no tools & not terribly handy with cars in general). I take it to get the boost readings and ecu read offs, it will have to taken to a scooby specialist / dealer.

Anyone know if the Isleworth (London) one is any good - its the one most local to me.
