Question URGENT help identifying a pipe that's come off pleaseee!

Hey guys, I just had the bonnet up to jump start my car because the battery has gone flat, and while I had the bonnet up I happened to notice this pipe has come off.........

Can anybody tell me what that pipe does and if it's important? I'm guessing it's important otherwise it wouldn't even be there! The problem is though, there's another pipe coming off like a t-junction piece which is wedged really tightly down by where the airbox bolts to the car, so when I pull the pipe up to fit back onto where it came off in the first pic, the other pipe comes off!!!.......

So I don't really know what to do!? I can only think this must have been done in a garage when someone's not put something back quite right.......but I can't think why anyone would've had the airbox off for any reason? All it's been in for lately is a service. It did cross my mind that it'd been like this since I bought it and I just hadn't noticed? But I don't know what that pipe does so don't know how the car will managed without it connected. I've had it over 3 years and it's seemed fine! What I do know is that the little grey-topped cylindrical thing the pipe goes into says something about 'purge' and 'fuel tank' on it!!? Doh!

Thanks in advance for ur help guys

But you cant leave pipes off.
Probably when service and air filter or spark plugs removed.
Just reconnect
