Default Accelerating

Hey everyone, was wondering if anyone could shed some light on a problem I’ve come across. When cruising anywhere between 2 – 3k rpm and I put my foot down it jumps up 500 odd revs then drops back to normal and begins to accelerate normal, it only happens in 3rd,4th,5th gear. My car is an impreza uk 99, only mods are a forge style dump valve, and an afterburner vortex backbox and centre section decat.
Cheers Dean

It still may pull off ok due to gear ratios.

As with all replys on internet forums, this is only my opinion and I am in no means an expert. May be worth getting a second opinion, but thats what my money would be on.

it will pull of fine your clutch will start to slip in the higher gears first i.e 4th 5th 6th e.t.c. as your engine is in the peak torque band 4 longer in the higher gears.so it will pull away fine.slipping in the higher gears is a pretty good sign your clutch is on its way out im afraid mate.if it makes you feel any better mines doing it aswell..but believe me it will not be long before the lower gears start slipping.but if you drive it steady and of boost it will last quite a while. mine started about a month before xmas and still drives ok. as long as i dont hit boost to much.but ive saved the funds now and its going in tomorrow for a new one..

Clutches are weird things as you may get away with just replacing the clutch, on the other hand it may need the flywheel replacing which will bump the price up, I would suggest a good garage do the job.
