Default Engine life

Just bought a 96 turbo wagon showing 149k, engine seems healthy and i believe original. My question is what is the life expectancy for these engines before a rebuild and is it safe to drive the car hard considering the mileage. Pretty new to scoobys so any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

I have just stripped one with 171000 on it, not failed just very tired & breathing badly.
I know its genuine mileage & never been rebuilt before as its 1 owner has had it from new, with all bills etc from day 1.
Its a 96 Classic UK car.

A decent service history is the important thing.
Although its also a luck of the draw thing and how its been driven.
Some blow well before 100K.
Is it a UK or import?
If an import, some of that number could be in km's.

I find there is no real consistency to the life of a Subaru that’s for sure, we see spun bearings on 04 cars and on the other hand have cars in excess of 150k still on there original clutches. Service history is always a good thing but equally important is the mechanical sympathy of the drivers over the years
