hesitation, classic between2-3k need help
please help, have a 99 uk turbo classic, totally standard, it has a problem where there is quite a hesistation between 2-3k and when driving along say in 5th at 60 when the revs are there it feels like the power is pulsating, coming and going.......have replaced ignition leads and i am thinking either coil pack or fuel pump, have changed maf but never made any difference??
anybody come across this problem before, car runs fine otherwise and seems to boost and pull fine
there is no fault codes and engine management light has never came on.....

hi, yes have changed them, it had been doing it for a while then it finally melted no2 piston on the compression ring, have replaced this and rebuilt the engine with new sparkplugs but problem still there, noticed manifold had been getting hot so was thinking misfire and only thing left realy to change is coil but was wondering if anyone had come across this before

Is it , mapped etc..? Need to know more..!
If it's previously melted a piston it sounds like it might be detting, although at <3k that's a bit unlkely imho..??
Hence the need to know more info about spec..

hi thanks for the ideas, just to add some info, the car is a standard uk turbo only mod is a back box, still has all cats.......run car on both unleaded and super still has problem with both........will check boost pipe but never noticed anything when it was stripped..have given the boost control a clean but problem seems to be before the boost comes in once in car goes fine...
tony i know getting worried as this is the "reliable" family car so can't really risk it doing it again, plus am i right in saying its rare for no2 piston to melt...

Yeah, it did go over 3k in 1st and 2nd no problem. In 3rd, it wasn't so good, with what felt like varying levels of boost. My next step is also to remove the intercooler and check the pipes there, as well as give the IC a clean

20 quid says o2sensor , or o2sensor white plug to the left of the intercooler coroded inside !
and get the faultcode out of the car.

Yup its very rare for no2 to go, especially on a standard car, normally points to bad fuelling though, could be your fuel pump is a little weak or its one of the sensors (maf springs to mind as they are quite fragile on MY99/00 cars).
